We use Vangos a lot in 48th Fife (Dalgety Bay) Scout Group – particularly in Donibristle Scout Troop.

These are expensive pieces of kit, so we have to treat them properly and keep them in good order.

That starts with pitching them correctly:

This video features a green nylon flysheet – ours are orange canvas, but otherwise they are the same.

Pay particular attention to how those pitching support the poles to prevent the A-pieces from breaking. THESE ARE EXPENSIVE and if they break whilst you are pitching the tent, you could end up without a tent to sleep in! At least whilst you are perfecting your tent pitching skills, do this as a two-person task. And do not stand on any of the tent whilst pitching or packing.

And here’s the written instructions – handy if you want to print off and keep close to hand for a reminder!

How we pack a Vango Force 10

Before you start: ensure you’ve removed ALL rubbish and done up the flysheet door.

Then….

1. Grab your pegs, and check you have two solid a-pieces
2. Grab your poles
3. Have your tent bag handy, nice and dry (because you kept it inside the tent last night)
4. Lay your groundsheet flat
5. Fold your flysheet
6. Lay your flysheet centrally
7. Fold your inner tent: orange-on-orange
(Half of your black groundsheet should be facing up)
8. Fold in the bell
9. Check the folds match the poles
10. Fold the groundsheet in to fit the poles
11. Roll your groundsheet bundle, tightly
(just like this)
12. Insert into your bag
then add your pegs, do up the top and straps.

DONE.
